FreeBSD with lagg (LACP), VLANs and IPFW (Mini HowTo)

2013/06/03

This Mini HowTo, if you can even call it one, describes how to setup FreeBSD
with lagg (LACP), 802.1q VLANs (tag or trunk) and IPFW.

Let's start with the different ways an IP address and alias can be assigned
to an interface. The normal notation would be with inet and netmask.

ifconfig_em0="inet 172.16.0.2 netmask 255.255.255.0"
ifconfig_em0_alias0="inet 172.16.0.3 netmask 255.255.255.255"

But you can also do this with the CIDR (Classless Inter-Domain Routing) notation:

ifconfig_em0="inet 172.16.0.2/24"
ifconfig_em0_alias0="inet 172.16.0.3/32"

You can replace em0 with another interface name, for example bge0 or fxp0.
